196,000 Meals Head for the Children of Haiti
Thousands of children affected by the Haiti earthquake will get hot, nourishing meals, thanks to the efforts of 400 pairs of hands working over five months to package the food.
On Friday, June 4, Kids Against Hunger of Central Texas a non-profit international organization that packages and ships nutritionally balanced food to impoverished areas, shipped out 196,000 meals to be given to Haitian orphanages and schools.
"We have had more than 400 volunteers from Temple and Belton churches, civic groups and the Temple police and fire departments packaging the food," said Lamar Eidson, one of the coordinators. "These volunteers ranged in age from 7 to 101."First Anniversary of KAH Central Texas
On July 31, 2010, Kids Against Hunger Central Texas celebrated its first anniversary hosting a packaging event with volunteers from the Troy Methodist Church. In the first year of operation, the Central Texas chapter held 23 packaging events with more than 400 volunteers. Groups participating came from churches, schools, and civic organizations in Temple, Belton, and Rockdale, and included the Temple Fire and Police Departments. During that time more than 250,000 meals were packaged and shipped to Honduras and Haiti. Shown are volunteers from the Troy Methodist Church and other friends who packaged 16,848 meals in the three hour session.
KAH Meals Feed 70,000 Haitian Children Daily
My name is Matt Oquist and I would like to introduce you to Atou. I met Atou on a recent trip to Haiti. He lives in City Soleil, Haiti near the Ecole Chietienne Evangelique school. 95 children attend this school where they have been feeding Kids Against Hunger meals for the last two years. For many of the students, this is the one meal that they will eat a day. The school was built by Pastor George, a local religious leader who purchased all of the cement blocks for the school, to improve the lives of Haitian children. According to Pastor George, "If there wasn't any Kids Against Hunger food, half of the students would stay home." Atou does not go to this school, because there isn't any more room, but he comes to the gate every day to see if there are any leftovers after all of the students have been fed. The day that I met Atou there was food for him because someone in the US volunteered to package meals with Kids Against Hunger
Matt Oquist and Scott Anderson from Kids Against Hunger just returned from a trip to Haiti with members from the Luther Automotive Group. The group spent an amazing 5 days witnessing the impact of the Kids Against Hunger meals firsthand by meeting with multiple feeding partners that feed more than 70,000 Haitian children everyday.

KAH Meals to Haiti
Wednesday, Dec 5, 2013, volunteers from Kids Against Hunger of Central Texas and Hope for the Hungry load meals destined for Port au Prince, Haiti. These meals are part of a shipment of 133,272 KAH meals for hundreds of malnourished children in schools and orphanges in Haiti. The vitamins, minerals, and protein in each of these meals will be the primary factor in restoring these children to good health over the next several months. Our sincere thanks to all the churchs and civic groups who donated their time and money to package these meals. Without their help this shipment would not have been possible.
